The Soul

“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. They will practice Indian yoga and all its exercises, observe a strict regimen of diet, learn the literature of the whole world – all because they cannot get on with themselves and have not the slightest faith that anything useful could ever come out of their own souls. Thus the soul has gradually been turned into a Nazareth from which nothing good can come.”

All the wonders of the world and beyond will be unlocked, if we just look inwards.

  1. I agree that people are afraid to look within themselves and see who they truly are. I don’t thinks it’s because they don’t think anything good comes from the soul, but that they are afraid of what they may find out about who they really are. I don’t agree with the statement about yoga because it’s not just about exercise. Yoga is actually a spirituality/religion based in Hinduism.

    1. I think yoga to some degree helps a person look inwards, because there are certain breathing exercises and practices where are quite spiritually potent. That excerpt which I quoted is from Carl Jung, and I don’t agree with every bit of it to be honest; I like the main idea behind it. Indeed you’re right, we’re more afraid of the uncertainties than we are of what may be bad in us. Always a fear of the unknown, especially within us.
