A Shield & A Facade

clear, cool night

Everyone knows a cynic or a skeptic in their life, no doubt. This person doubts, distrusts and believes not in the good things that come along or happen; they are unaffected by whatever goodness that may spawn from small or big things, and they would rather disregard than embrace. It is as though they believe not even in life itself, like as though everything is too good to be true and they have a stubborn refusal to accept anything that is worthy or true.

On the flipside, you may say a cynical or skeptical attitude towards life in general is like a safeguard, a shield or a wall in which these people choose to hide behind; they probably fear the possible disappointment more than they enjoy the likely happiness that waits in line for them. It is  perhaps something that they have developed over the many years and times of failure, setback and sorrow, so much so that they lose their belief in things working out for the good. They would rather be protected by a facade or delusion that nothing good would ever be heading their way, and they harden themselves to stay safe from anymore possible injuries that may wound them once too deep again.

It is true that no one likes a cynic or a skeptic for his pessimistic outlook and negativity, simply because they have not gone through what that person might have experienced before. No one can stand to a cynical or skeptical person’s comment on a joyous matter and everyone will regard that person as a party spoiler or deliberate wet blanket.

Truth is, no one was born to be negative and pessimistic. It is from the many unpleasant encounters and stumbling blocks that a distrusting and doubting character is cut and sliced out. No one would want to deliberately avoid and condemn good things and it already is beyond their control that they have become such detestable people.

The next time you come across a character like that, ask him about his story and past experiences and what comes out of that supposedly disdainful voice may shock you. If that does not work, you can simply look into those pair of eyes and through them, you may witness a  dim shade of sorrow and misery.

I dedicate this post to that person who stands in some corner in your life.

Loving The Veggie On Your Plate

overcast, likely to rain

To the general population, meat has firmly cemented its place on the dinner plate and it  is considered to be a fixed part of a well balanced  and good diet. A meal without meat on the table cannot look nor smell like a complete meal and the food suddenly becomes very much less attractive without the meaty addition. People love to eat meat and they find it to be immensely delicious and consider it a pleasure to eat meat. It is not that they dislike the greens, they just enjoy the meat. Be it on festive occasions or ordinary daily meals, meat is of great importance and it almost certainly must be served, regardless plain, with gravy, well cooked or medium rare.

Of course, there are the vegetarians on the other hand, who will not consume meat and meat is entirely absent in their diet. It is not necessarily that they dislike the taste of meat and love their vegetables so much; most of the time, abstinence from eating meat encompasses deeper reasons and intentions. No one can deny the fact that meat indeed taste good, so to give the meat a skip is not about disliking the taste, because it is factual that meat is delicious.

People turn to vegetarianism for many reasons, and the commonly heard ones would be health reasons (including weight issues), religious reasons, compassion for living beings and spiritual elevation, while not forgetting personal reasons as well.

Without any form of denial, a vegetarian diet is most certainly healthier than a meaty diet and a person is generally healthier living off a regular vegetarian diet . It is a good method to ensure good overall wellness and troubles of obesity and heart-related issues are less common among the vegetarians. This is one of the major attractive features of going green (in terms of diet) and many people consider this point to be the reason why they convert.

As for the religious portion, some religions strictly forbid their followers from consuming meat due to very specific reasons that could tide in with the concepts of karma, meditation etc. It is advised in the Buddhist religion to abstain from killing of life and abstinence from meat falls under that category as well, since it is true that the animal had to be killed in order to feed you.

Most notably, compassion for living beings is one of the most well taken and important reason for people to adopt vegetarianism. It has been an age long dispute as to whether humans are supposed to eat meat or not and many people feel strongly against eating meat. Every life is valuable and has its place and time on Earth, and thus we should not just take life in order to fulfill our hunger and desire, as straightly put across by the vegetarian advocates. This is quite subjective because people all have different views pertaining to this matter.

The choice as to whether to adopt a vegetarian diet  or not eventually lies with the individual, even though it is going against the societal norms and it could post many possible inconveniences. For health and for the compassion towards living beings, would you become a vegetarian?

Looking On, Wishing On

cool, breezy evening

The eyes are probably the most important things to a person, for it is the window of the soul and organ of sight. Unless you have powers of the extraordinaire, everything that you see is only possible through those two lovely, delicate and wonderful eye balls that you so dearly possess as a being. Let’s fast track a little bit..

Some people look on at other people living their lives and either forget or neglect to live their own; another list of people look on at other people living their lives and imagine how good it is to live a life as observed. Of course, there is another group that look on at other people’s lives and attempt to live a life like that. Finally.. there is the best lot that look on, smile, and focus on constructing their life to how they want it to be.

The trendsetters and successful people all belong to the last set because they are clear as to how they want their life to be and how they want to go about achieving that. They spend their time working on their own life rather than looking at other people and how they live their lives, and this is a crucial factor on the course to success and happiness. In fact (i just realized it..), happy people are of that kind as well, because they don’t get jealous or envious but are instead contented with how their life is going or working out!

Let’s face it: the only life that we ever will have is the life that we are living now; we are not playing a computer or electronic game (think Pokemon, Second Life, The Sims etc) where we get to choose which person’s life to take over or which character to select to play as. Everything that we want has to be built with our own hands and with our own life, because you simply can’t swap lives with other people and you can’t control how life turns out or which life you want.

If you have a dream, chase it. If you have a wish, work on it. If you have a vision, turn it into reality. That is what life is all about: knowing what you want and going about to achieve it.

The question is.. what’s next after looking on?
